This person was born on the 14 th October 1927. He was the son of a policeman. At the age of 15 he entered art school with the intention of becoming a painter, he did later become an apprentice at an animated studio. In his spare time he started delving into acting as an extra in crowd scenes and this gave him the acting bug so he then went to study at the Royal Academy Of Drama and went on to star in quite a few West End Plays.

Then his acting had to take a side line as he was inducted into the British Army as a Lieutenant with the Combined Services Entertainment Unit In Germany. When he came out of the Army he went over to America to try and start his acting career off and it worked and he got a film contract with MGM. He finally got his big break on American Television starring in shows such as Ivanhoe And Maverick.

From these TV appearances it lead to him starring in films as characters such as Harold Pelham – The Man Who Haunted Himself, Michael Scott – That Lucky Touch, Sebastian Oldsmith – Shout At The Devil, Lt Shawn Fynn – The Wild Geese and Major Otto Hecht – Escape To Athena. He also starred in a few TV shows in the UK as the character Lord Brett Sinclair and in shows such as The Third Man, The Roaring 20's and he also did a turn as Sherlock Holmes .

He also succeeded Audrey Hepburn in the role of Special Representative For Film Arts For UNICEF, and this led to him being honored with a CBE. Then in June 2003 he was awarded a knighthood for his work with UNICEF.

Into the 80's & 90's his work load diminished slightly he did still star in some film roles as characters such as Seymour Goldforb Jr – The Cannonball Run, Garald Bradley Smith – Bullseye & Lord Edgar Dobbs – The Quest. He also supplied the voice of Lumi Ukko in the film “The Magic Snowman” and the voice on the car radio in the remake of the TV show “The Saint” starring Val Kilmer. He has been married four times and has 3 children and 2 grandchildren.

As he has got older the film roles have become less and less but in the late 90's – early 2000's he did star in some films admittedly not very good ones the roles he played were The Chief – Spice World The Movie, Supt Robert Ogilvie – The Enemy And Lloyd Faversham – Boat Trip and on TV he starred as Desmond Heath in the American TV Show “ The Dream Team ” and as Edward Poole SD -9 in the show “ Alias”.

In 1993 he also underwent surgery for Prostate Cancer which he has now fully recovered from.
