This person was born on the 18 th January 1955 in Lynwood California. As a young child he had a very unsettled upbringing moving homes all the time due to his fathers job making him feel like an army kid always the new kid at school. In his teens he sang for the Baptist choir also attended classes for poetry and writing. Then in 1973 he went to California State University coming away with a degree in business, but it was while studying for this degree he went to acting classes 5 nights a week in his spare time. But his life changing moment was when on a plane coming back from Mexico he got chatting to screen legend Richard Burton who advised him to give up all other distractions and concentrate full time on acting, and following Richards advice he upped sticks and moved to Los Angeles.

Roles were hard to come by, and in 1974 he even starred in a softcore porn film called Malibu Hot Summer . He then had a very brief appearance in a film called Frances , and had a small part in a film called Shadows Run Black . But his first major fim role came in 1982 when he played Will Bonner in a film called Stacy's Knights .

After turning down the lead role in War Games (which consequently launched Matthew Brodericks career). He took on the role of Phil Pitkin in the film Testamen t which gave his career a boost, he then played roles such as Jake -Silverado, Eliot Ness -The Untouchables, Crash Davies -Bull Durham & Ray Kinsella -Field of Dreams

In 1990 he had his first try at directing his first film in which he also starred as the lead role Lt John Dunbar -Dances With Wolves. Some of the other roles he played were Jim Garrison -JFK, Robert ‘Butch' Haynes - A Perfect World, Roy Mcaroy -Tin Cup & Garrat Blake -Message in a Bottle

And finally, some of his most famous roles were Frank Farmer - The Bodyguard, Wyatt Earp & Robin of Locksley . But of course probably his worst role was when he starred as the Mariner in the film which he directed, which went down in history as one of the biggest film flops of all time.
