This person was born on the 9 th December 1934 in York England. She was a very hot tempered and spirited as a child and is still as hot tempered and spirited to this day! At five years old she made her first stage debut as a snail in a local theatre show. At 13 she entered The Mount School a private Quaker school in York and it was at that school that she appeared in several school productions of Shakespeare plays. From The Mount she went on to study acting at the Central School . She graduated from there to join the Royal Shakespeare Company . But her first screen debut was on the small screen playing characters such as:-

Miss Humphries - The Third Secret
Hilda Lessways - Hilda Lessways
Terry- Talking To Strangers
Elizebeth Moris - Days To Come

Through out the 70's & 80's she continued to dazzle on stage also on the small screen becoming one of the best known faces on TV. Two of the characters which brought on the popularity where as Laura Dalton - Fine Romance and Jean Hardcastle - As Time Goes By. She did then get into the big screen playing characters such as:-

Marcia Pilborough - Wetherby , Mistress Quickly - Henry V , Margaret - Jack & Sarah

But it was in 1997 when she played Queen Victoria – Mrs Brown on the big screen that she was nominated for her first Oscar. In her career she has racked up many awards getting an Oscar, 9 BAFTAS & 1 Golden Globe Award. She was also set to star in the West End Production of CATS but due to, illness she had to drop out and it was Elaine Paige who eventually took the part. It was now that she concentrated on her movie career playing roles such as:-

Arabella - Tea With Mussolini, Agnis Homm - The Shipping News, Armande Volzin - Chocolat - Lady Bracknell - The Importance Of Being Ernest

In 2001 she did return to the stage starring plays such as The Royal family and The Breath Of Life . As well as working on stage she still managed to do a few films playing characters such as:-

And finally probably her most famous film role was in James Bond films as the stern faced acid tongued M, she is of course….
